momstown Kitchener-Waterloo’s newest program, Rhyme Rhythm and Read, has been a huge success! All the babies love to hear the songs and rhymes and are learning what fun books can be. Mamas are learning new ways to interact with their babies and making connections with other moms. We quickly out grew our initial location and now hold this program at Luther Village on the Park. We are looking forward to warmer weather to hold our program outside at the lovely playground!
We start each time with introductions of both mamas and babies. Our first song is also a welcoming song entitled “Clap and Sing Hello” (to the tune of “Farmer in the Dell”). We then follow this up with 5-6 songs and rhymes, including favourites such as “Head and Shoulder”, “Grand Ol’ Duke of York” and “Patty Cake”. The babies love all the hand gestures and eye contact with mama.
We then have a story for the babies. This past week Scholastic inspired us to have a book share! We each brought 2-3 books and during the regular story breaks we traded and read to our own baby. This gave us a great opportunity to learn about some new books. Scholastic also provides a book each month to be raffled off! Our March winner of the book "Hugs" was Kim and Sadie! Congratulations!
After the first story break we listen to some songs and sing and move along. Some of the favourites are “If Your Happy and You Know It”, “Alice the Camel” and “Old McDonald”. We wrap up with a second story and our goodbye song entitled “Goodbye Train” (to the tune of “She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain). Finally, we have about 30 minutes of social time tro get to know the other moms and babies before heading home.
