It seems that summer ended a lot sooner than any of us anticipated, which means fall feels in full swing and with it; pumpkins are already out in local stores and markets. Momstown Kitchener-Waterloo already has activities planned for October around pumpkins and Halloween, so it is a great time to start preparing with your own family for the fun of the season.
Rather than just grabbing a pumpkin from the local grocery store, if you have some time, try and take the kids to one of our amazing local farms for a fun fall day. Most local places have more to offer than just the fun of picking a pumpkin and you can make it a full adventure for everyone in the family. All of the farms listed below have a field for you to pick your pumpkins, but they have a few other activities that make it worth the trip out to the country.
Just outside of Guelph, Strom’s offer a wide range of fall activities including mazes (which you can even do at night), wagon rides and even pumpkin chucking, which is always a favourite for kids of all sizes. And as an added bonus, a portion of all admission sales goes to Kidsability.

This farm is always a favourite of ours and offers a ton of activities for little ones, which can sometimes be tricky to find so they don’t feel left out. You will find the usual tractor rides, but also a puppet show, clowns, and some farm animals. They also have a fear farm in October for the bigger kids (or for an adult scare).
Hours: Weekends in September 10 am – 5 pm, Weekends in October 10 am – 7 pm, and Weekdays in October Wednesday – Friday 10 am – 5 pm.

This farm just outside of St. Clement’s, offers over 5000 pumpkins already picked and thousands more in their fields, so you are guaranteed to find the perfect pumpkin to bring home. They also have a corn maze, swings and a pumpkin slingshot for the pumpkins that don’t make the cut.

This farm is located just past Mannheim and offers a corn maze, a straw maze for the little ones, farm animals and plenty of pumpkins to choose from. They also have lots of fall produce so you should leave ready to decorate the house in all things fall décor.

I always like to include a nice alternative to the full production of going to the farm and Herrle’s is the perfect option if you are wanting to just get a pumpkin and get outside with the family. Although there are not a ton of activities for the kids to do, there are enough things to keep little ones entertained and you can end at the market, offering the best in local produce and baking, which really is the best part.
Hours: Monday to Friday 8 am – 7 pm, Saturday 8 am – 6 pm, Sunday 9 am – 6 pm
