Melted crayon hearts

February 10, 2015momstownCraftNo comments
You have probably noticed this on Pinterest already, but I am here to tell you, it really is that easy! Take the broken crayons from your bins, melt them and craft done.

This craft has been shown on Pinterest many times, but if you are like me, you might have thought it looked too complicated.  I am here to say it really is that easy! There is really no way to mess this up and have a pinterest fail.

Step 1:

Gather all of the broken crayons from your little one's bins (I am sure there are many)

Step 2:

Take all of the crayons and soak them in a bowl of water for an hour (this step is an important one and one we didn't figure out until we spent too much time trying to take all the paper off our crayons).

Step 3:

Have some fun with your little one taking all of the paper off the crayons, which will likely fall off after soaking in the water.

Step 4:

Once all the paper is removed, let your kids put the broken crayons in the silicon mold.  For some this might be sorting by colours, others are more free-spirited and pile them in as they want to.  Either way they will look great!

Step 5:
Once the molds are filled atleast 1/2 way you are ready to go.  Place in the oven at 250 degrees and let them melt for 15-20 minutes.

Step 6:
Remove from the oven and allow to cool before pushing them out of the molds.
Step 7:
There are lots of free printables available online if you want to place these in bags for valentine's gifts, or you can just let your own little ones colour their hearts out.
